Gary Simmen started Simmen Lumber in 1974. Prior to this new lumber business, Gary worked as a teenager and young adult at his uncle's lumber business. After college he began working for several different wholesalers and brokers until 1974. The business began as an office brokerage and wholesale operation, dealing primarily in commodity lumber products (ie. truckload, carload, studs, 2 x 4, 2 x 6, etc.).
